Bouncing Back! YWCA Programming Resumes Monday

POTTSTOWN PA – With the arrival of “green phase” relaxed restrictions within Montgomery County, as its businesses and residents attempt to return to some sense of normality during the coronavirus pandemic, the YWCA Tri-County Area, 315 King St., said it is re-opening Monday (July 6, 2020) for programming.

Early Education

The YW’s Early Education Center at King Street will reopen weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with classes for infants and toddlers, preschool, and Early Head Start. Registration for Pre-K Counts is open; classes start Aug. 24. For information, call 610-323-1888, Ext. 209.

YW also will offer a summer program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. “Friendships and Fun” will include STEAM enrichment, fitness activities, swimming instruction, creative expression, and games. For more information, contact Charneesha Queen at cqueen@ywcatricountyarea.org

YW is following state guidelines in reopening and in maintaining facilities. All teachers will wear masks and smocks. A health and safety handbook outlining procedures and program changes will be available to all parents and guardians.

Youth Empowerment

Youth Empowerment Programming will continue its online groups for girls in grades 4-12 throughout the summer. Its schedule includes:

  • Great Girls Today (grades 4-6), Tuesdays 10:30 a.m. to noon;
  • Girls Take the Lead (grades 9-12), Tuesdays 1 to 2 p.m. for Pottsgrove High School;
  • Girls In Charge (grades 7-8), Tuesdays 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.;
  • Girls Take the Lead (grades 9-12), Wednesdays 1 to 2 p.m. for Pottstown High School; and
  • Girls Take the Lead (grades 9-12), Thursdays 1 to 2 p.m. for Owen J. Roberts High School.

Family Cooking Matters

Family Cooking Matters will offer two virtual, six-week sessions in healthy cooking for families of preschool age children. Session 1, “Satisfying Summer Snacks,” will held Tuesdays beginning July 7 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Session 2, “End the Dinnertime Dread!,” will be held Thursdays beginning July 9 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Families will spend time together preparing healthy meals and snacks, and moving to music and activities. Registration is available at tinyurl.com/YWfamilycooking

Adult Education and Training

The Adult Education and Training Center continues its online classrooms for high school equivalency and English as a Second Language for the next several weeks. Registration is still open for all classes. The next 12-week high school equivalency session begins Monday.

Adult students taking the HiSET high school equivalency test may now take the test at home. Students must meet technology requirements for the home test. In-person HiSET testing has resumed on the second and fourth Fridays of each month at the Pottstown location, 724 N. Adams St. The first test session will be Friday (July 10).
