Driver Finds Handgun in Upper Pottsgrove Roadway

UPPER POTTSGROVE PA – An unidentified but obviously concerned driver, who spotted what turned out to be a handgun lying in the roadway on the 1800 block of Farmington Avenue in Upper Pottsgrove, stopped to pick it up and then flagged down the first law enforcement agent he could find … a Douglass (Berks) township police officer on patrol.

In a Thursday (July 9, 2020) report published on the Douglass (Berks) department’s CrimeWatch website, the driver told police where and how the .22-caliber revolver was discovered, and said the find worried him about public safety. The Douglass officer, who was on duty Sunday (July 5) at 10:30 a.m. on Reading Avenue when the driver caught his attention, took possession of the firearm.

The gun was later turned over to police in Upper Pottsgrove, where it had been found. There was no indication if the gun was loaded at the time, or if its owner has been identified.
