In Collegeville and Schwenksville, Friday is Turkey Day

COLLEGEVILLE PA – A feast of roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans – the perfect Thanksgiving meal, offered four months early – will be distributed Friday (July 17, 2020) from 9-11 a.m. at the bus loops of both Perkiomen Valley High School, 509 Gravel Pike, Collegeville, and Schwenksville Elementary School, 55 2nd St., Schwenksville.
It will be the latest repast provided by the Perkiomen Valley School District’s Food Service Department, a post on its Facebook page reported.
The department has supplied free meals to the community several times a week for the past few months. Meals are typically distributed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but hungry potential patrons are asked to check its Facebook page beforehand to ensure availability.
The only question asked of those picking up meals is how many are needed for them or their family.
Typical meals in the past have featured watermelon, hydroponically grown lettuce from a local farm, cheese omelets, and cheeseburgers. The distribution usually includes breakfast and lunch for the current day, along with two additional meals for the next day.
In a June entry on Facebook, the department encouraged all members of the community to pick up a grab-and-go meal to “extend their food budgets,” “save time shopping and prepping meals,” and keep its “staff employed during the summer months.”
Each meal served also provides additional funding to the food service department from the USDA, it said.
