422 Full Overnight Closures Begin Monday for Bridge Demolition

KING OF PRUSSIA PA – East- and westbound U.S. Route 422 between its Armand Hammer Boulevard and Sanatoga interchanges will be closed and detoured during overnight hours beginning Monday (Sept. 28, 2020) for demolition and future replacement of bridges that carry Park Road and Pleasant View Road over the expressway in Lower Pottsgrove, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

Full closures will be in place Mondays through Fridays daily from midnight to 5 a.m. through Oct. 16, the agency said. Travelers are advised to use an allow extra time when moving through or near the work areas, because backups and delays will occur, PennDOT warned. All scheduled activities are depend on acceptable weather.

During the closure, eastbound 422 drivers will be directed to use Armand Hammer Boulevard and High Street to access the expressway at Rupert Road. Westbound drivers will be directed to exit at the Sanatoga interchange and use High Street and Armand Hammer Boulevard to access the expressway.

Beginning Tuesday (Sept. 22) Park Road over 422 will be reduced to a single lane between High Street and Eastern Road, using a temporary traffic signal to maintain two-way traffic. This alternating single-lane pattern will remain until the bridge is replaced, through the end of November 2021.

Beginning Oct. 5 (Monday), and continuing through the end of July 2021, South Pleasant View Road over 422 will be closed and detoured around the clock between Princeton Avenue and Sanatoga Station Road, also for bridge replacement. During the closure, South Pleasant View drivers will be directed to use High Street, Evergreen Road, and Sanatoga Station Road.

The bridge work will comply with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance, as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan.

H&K Group Inc. of Skippack is the general contractor on the $7.1 million effort, expected to finish in late 2022. Replacement of the Park Road and Pleasant View Road bridges is being done ahead of starting a separate project to reconstruct 422 between the Sanatoga interchange and Porter Road.
