Verizon Grant Helps PerkUp Project Promote Growth

EAST GREENVILLE PA – Local legislators and representatives of the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce gathered Friday (Oct. 2, 2020) to officially receive a Verizon Foundation grant of $10,000 to assist the chamber’s PerkUp Project in promoting comprehensive community and economic development.

Among those present were 24th District state Sen. Bob Mensch, 147th District state Rep. Marcy Toepel, chamber President Luanne Stauffer, and PerkUp Project Coordinator Michele Fillippo.

PerkUp began during the stuttering economy of 2008, with business leaders and local legislators asking how they could better “shape the future of our community.” As a result of business engagement and public participation, those involved in the project are “working together to protect and economically leverage natural resources, encourage business development, and provide local education opportunities,” according to the chamber website.

Although PerkUp is now a separate 501(c)3 corporation, it continues to be supported by the chamber through leadership and goals.
