In Boyertown Saturday, that ‘Down On The Farm’ Feel
BOYERTOWN PA – The bright and sunny, but not hot, weekend practically begged local residents to go outside and enjoy their surroundings. Hundreds of people answered that call Saturday (Oct, 3, 2020) with a visit to the Frecon Farms Orchard, 231 Powder Mill Hollow Rd., where the apple-and-pumpkin-picking season was in full swing.
Orchard representatives offered maps (above) to the best harvesting of apple varieties at pick-your-own prices, and two straw-covered orchard lanes filled with almost every size pumpkin imaginable. A tractor and hay wagon with seating provided transportation across the farms’ sprawling hillsides, and also up to a concession area selling foods and featuring live musical performances (below).
A nearby hay bale maze kept kids busy while parents relaxed, listening to folk and country favorites. Almost everyone exercised coronavirus cautions, too, with proper masks and social distancing.
For some, though, just a walk among the orderly lines of trees (above), seeing fruit in bloom and watching birds and insects at work was just as satisfying as any ride. One or two tables were available for picnicking for those so inclined. Others spread out on a patch of grass they found comforting and settled in for their meal.
The farms’ Google Business site reports its operating hours as closed Sunday through Wednesday, open Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking is free.
