Township Hires Three Contractors for Snow Removal Help

SANATOGA PA – It’s likely that slowly dropping temperatures have given Lower Pottsgrove residents a heads-up on the status of the season. If there’s any doubt that winter is approaching, though, here’s an official action that confirms it. The township Board of Commissioners has hired three different contractors for snow removal during the final quarter of 2020 and the opener of 2021.

During their Monday (Oct. 5, 2020) meeting, commissioners agreed to retain Above Grade Landscaping Inc. in Barto PA, Haines and Kibblehouse Group Inc. of Pottstown, and Sacks & Sons Inc. of Zieglerville PA to compliment the work done by township Public Works employees should extra help be needed.

All three also offered similar services to Lower Pottsgrove in two previous winters, Manager Ed Wagner said earlier.

Lower Pottsgrove includes about 100 miles of public roads. Of those, 25 miles are maintained by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. To clear the remaining 75 of ice and snow the township relies on trained crews and plow trucks of its own. It uses independent plow owners only as needed, particularly during severe storms.

As they have in the past, commissioners signed contracts with all bidders, despite what could be substantial variances in their prices depending on the equipment used. The practice assures the township has back-up service whenever required, Wagner noted.
