‘Put Brakes on Fatalities Day’ Observed Today by PennDOT
SLOW DOWN FOR SAFETY’S SAKE – Today (Oct. 10, 2020) is being observed as “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day” by Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation and its Turnpike Commission. The annual event encourages all Pennsylvania drivers to move over or slow down when they encounter an incident along the side of the road. “Each day, emergency responders and highway workers risk their own safety to come to the aid of others on Pennsylvania roadways,” Turnpike CEO Mark Compton said. They “must perform difficult jobs while also thinking about serious dangers very close by.” An earlier memorial (at top) created by the agencies paid tribute to PennDOT employees who lost their lives in work-related accidents.
