Bridge Construction Lane Restrictions in Upper Salford

Construction of the Perkiomen Creek East Branch bridge (at top) during July 2020

UPPER SALFORD PA – Lane restrictions with flagging are scheduled weekdays on Route 63 from Monday (Dec. 7, 2020) through Dec. 18 (Friday) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, between Barndt Road and Gerryville Pike in Upper Salford, for pipe inspection and grading operations under a bridge replacement project, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reported Friday (Dec. 4).

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area. Backups and delays will occur, the agency said. The work schedule depends on acceptable weather.

PennDOT contractor H&K Group Inc. of Skippack PA, at a cost of $9.6 million, is continuing work to replace three poor condition bridges that carry Route 63 over Unami Creek, Ridge Valley Creek, and the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek in Upper Salford and Marlborough townships. Bridges over the Unami and Ridge Valley creeks have already been completed, in December 2019.

For the remaining bridge construction over the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek, in addition to the lane restrictions with flagging, a single-lane pattern remains in effect through the end of December on Route 63 between Long Mill Road and Shady Lane.

The entire project is expected to be completed in Spring 2021.
