Hay Fire Damages Siding at Home Under Construction
SANATOGA PA – Hay used as ground cover at a home-building site on Steeplechase Lane in the Spring Valley Farms housing community caught fire Thursday afternoon (Feb. 25, 2021) at about 3 p.m. and created minor damage on the vacant building’s east side, Lower Pottsgrove Fire Marshal Lew Babel said. A construction worker’s unextinguished tobacco product is considered a possible cause, he added.
The hay was exposed as snow melted during the day’s warmth and sunshine. The worker, who was not identified, was said to have been on a break near the southeast corner of the uncompleted building where the incident occurred, Babel indicated. The fire damaged vinyl siding (above) along a portion of the home, he added.
Volunteer firefighters and fire police (at top and below) from the Sanatoga and Ringing Hill companies, Lower Pottsgrove police, Babel, and township Code Enforcement Officer Joe Groff were among the first responders at the scene. The response also drew a crowd of community residents as spectators, who gathered in a driveway across the street.
