Downed Tree Temporarily Traps Truck Near Park
LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Winds gusting up to 50 miles an hour, according to the National Weather Service, brought a tree down Tuesday at about 6:27 a.m. (at top) across North Keim Street, near its intersection with Yerger Road and the entrance to Lower Pottsgrove’s Ringing Rock Park (below). Power lines fell too, and a portion of North Keim was closed to traffic.
No one appeared to be injured, although a box truck (at top right) was passing through the area at the time and was temporarily trapped within the section of roadway. Montgomery County dispatchers also indicated a power pole may have been damaged, and that a Metropolitan Edison utility crew would be needed for electrical repairs.
Temperatures that dipped into the 20-degree range overnight Monday, due in part to wind chill, made traveling on some parts of Yerger and North Keim dangerous. Occasionally thick icy patches appeared in places where Monday daytime rainfall had frozen.
Responding to the incident were Lower Pottsgrove police and volunteer firefighters and fire police from the Sanatoga and Ringing Hill companies.
