Schuylkill River Trail Awarded 3rd Place Among 10Best
POTTSTOWN PA – The 75-miles-long Schuylkill River Trail was named Friday (Feb. 26, 2021) as the third most-favored riverwalk in the nation by respondents to a contest conducted in January by the USA Today newspaper. Its readers’ choice results were posted on its “10Best” website.
Urban planning experts and USA Today’s 10Best editors earlier selected 20 American trails, the Schuylkill among them, as initial nominees for the national contest. Members of the pubic then had a month to vote for their favorite trail. The Schuylkill River Trail came in third, following the Wilmington Riverwalk in second place, and the Detroit International RiverWalk in first.
The Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area, which manages and constructs portions of the trail, is headquartered on College Drive.
The Schuylkill River Trail traverses five counties of historically rich southeastern Pennsylvania. Trail users can enjoy both the trail and views of the river at several areas along its current path. When completed in several years, the trail will extend a total of 120 miles.
During 2015 the Schuylkill River Trail took first place as Best Urban Trail in a different USA Today contest. It was also selected as a top trail to visit in Pennsylvania on the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy blog, and is considered a major spine trail in the Circuit Trails network in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
