Gilbertsville, Pottstown Players Ready for WC Lacrosse

CHESTERTOWN MD – The 2021 Washington College men’s lacrosse team looks to kick-start its next successful run in program history as the team, including players from Gilbertsville and Pottstown, competes this spring in its 80th season on field under the guidance of 11-year head coach Jeff Shirk.

Boyertown High grad and WC sophomore Brady McFalls of Gilbertsville will be upfront among the team attackmen, led by senior captain Charlie Wittich, the college athletics website reported Friday (March 5, 2021).

McFalls played and started in two games in 2020. He lettered in lacrosse and football at Boyertown, and in lacrosse, was named 2019 PAC MVP/Player of the Year and was a three-time first-team All-PAC 10 selection. He was named Team MVP as a sophomore and senior, served as captain during his senior year, and holds a school record for points, according to team information.

It also said the midfield will be “will be one of the team’s more experienced units this season.” It includes Owen J. Roberts High grad and college sophomore Logan Clefisch of Pottstown, “who had seven points on three goals and four helpers” last season. “He is the team’s top returner in assists and tied for top squad returner in points.”

Clefisch chalked up seven points on three goals and four assists in starting all six games during 2020, the college stated. He lettered three times in lacrosse at Owen J. Roberts, was named first-team All-PAC, and was presented with Owen J. Roberts’ Leadership Award.

The Shoremen squad is comprised of eight seniors, four juniors, 15 sophomores and 12 freshmen. Four other players also hail from teams in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Their 2021 season successfully opened Saturday (March 6) at 1 p.m. at home against Randolph-Macon College of Virginia; Washington won, 10-8.
