Pottsgrove Hopes to Finance Fitness Centers Upgrades

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Fitness centers for students at Pottsgrove High School, 1345 Kauffman Rd., and Pottsgrove Middle School, 1351 N. Hanover St., Upper Pottsgrove, will receive equipment upgrades valued at a total of $93,625 under a lease-purchase agreement authorized Tuesday (March 9, 2021) by the Pottsgrove school board.

The Board of School Directors‘ vote, taken during its virtual meeting, was unanimous and without discussion. Directors reviewed the proposal during an earlier meeting, according to Superintendent Dr. William Shirk Jr.

Thanks to sponsorship revenues obtained through advertising and promotional work conducted for the district by Market Street Sports Group of Lancaster PA, Pottsgrove has $116,000 available to pay for the upgrades. However, the district has been offered a 5-year lease option for the equipment at an interest rate of 3.9 percent. A lease would allow its funds to remain uncommitted for other potential purposes.

Pottsgrove could accept the option, but with board permission it’s decided to first shop around and solicit financing proposals from other vendors in the hope of lowering interest costs. Directors required the price of the upgrades will not exceed the stated total, and the interest rate will be no higher than the original 3.9-percent offer.

Market Street Sports, meanwhile, will search for a naming sponsor of the centers so a local business’ marketing efforts can cover part or all of the upgrade expense, the district reported.
