School Districts Named ‘Best’ in Music Ed for 2021

CARLSBAD CA – Six local school districts – Pottstown, Pottsgrove, Spring-Ford Area, Perkiomen Valley, Phoenixville, and Boyertown Area – have been named as repeat winners among 686 districts nationwide that, according to a music-promoting non-profit organization, rank as “the best communities in the nation for music education” during 2021.

The annual awards are presented by the California-based NAMM Foundation, philanthropic arm of the National Association of Music Merchants trade association. They recognize “outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education,” it said.

All six similarly won awards from NAMM during 2020. Although the 2021 award winners were named in February, school districts just began receiving notifications this week. To qualify for the designation, districts answered detailed questions about their funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for music programs, and their responses were verified.

Music education researchers have determined children who make music benefit from increased educational, cognitive and social skills.
