Diners Exit Collegeville Restaurant in Small Fire

COLLEGEVILLE PA – Fire from burning landscape mulch worked its way Saturday (April 24, 2021) during lunch service hours into the base of an exterior corner (at top) of the Tio Juan’s Margaritas Mexican Restaurant, 350 Water Loop Lane in the Providence Towne Center shopping plaza, according to a Facebook post from Upper Providence Township Fire and Emergency Services.

No injuries were reported.

The fire, although extinguished outside, reportedly began extending to the interior and smoke was said to be visible inside. Mid-day diners exited the building as Upper Providence Engine 93, which arrived first at the scene, “stretched attack hose, and requested (a) working fire dispatch,” it said. Responding were fire departments and companies from Black Rock, Royersford, Trappe, Limerick, Perkiomen, Skippack, and Lower Providence, as well as Upper Providence police.

“Crews worked to open up the interior walls and extinguished the rest of the fire with help from our automatic and mutual aid companies,” the Upper Providence post added. Trappe and Limerick ladder crews examined the building roof line for other fire spread.

The incident was determined to be “under control after roughly 20 minutes,” a separate post on the Royersford Fire Department website stated. According to a Perkiomen Township company report, some of the volunteer firefighters received thank-you cupcakes supplied by the Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise, also within the center.

There was no indication Sunday (April 25) if or how Margaritas’ restaurant operations were subsequently affected. The fire was not referenced on either its Facebook page or website.
