Wegmans Gives 20 Scholarships at Collegeville Store

COLLEGEVILLE PA – Twenty Wegmans employees at its 600 Commerce Dr. market in Collegeville’s Providence Town Center are receiving higher education tuition assistance of $1,500 or more this year from the company’s scholarship program, it announced Tuesday (May 11, 2021).

For privacy purposes, the workers were identified only by their first names and last initial. They qualified for awards of up to $1,500 per year for four years, a maximum of $6,000, to part-time recipients; and awards of up to $2,200 per year for four years, a maximum of $8,800, to recipients who are full-time employees, employees who are children of full-time employees, employees enrolled in an accredited culinary program, and Wegmans interns.

The scholarship program began in 1984. Since then, Wegmans said, it has awarded more than $130 million to more than 42,500 employees. This year’s total tuition assistance amounts to $5.6 million. Currently, more than 5,000 employees receive scholarship funds, it added.

Wegmans operates 15 other stores across Pennsylvania where scholarships also were awarded.
