Gilbertsville First Responders Extinguish Truck Fire
GILBERTSVILLE PA – A vehicle fire that occurred Friday (May 14, 2021) around 12:44 p.m. near the intersection of Green Hill Road and Hill Road in Douglass (Montgomery) Township involved a waste collection truck owned by Perkiomenville PA-based Whitetail Disposal, the Gilbertsville Fire and Rescue Company reported on its Facebook page.
Fire company leaders at the scene reported the truck’s motor compartment was “well involved.” Due to the nature of the fire and the truck’s closeness to a nearby barn, additional apparatus from New Hanover Township Fire Rescue and the Eastern Berks Fire Department also were called as precautionary measures.
Volunteer firefighters “were able to make a quick stop before the fire was able to reach the (truck’s) refuse compartment,” the Gilbertsville company said.
Also Friday, it added, firefighters were called at 8:54 a.m. to respond to a vehicle rescue in the 1600 block of Swamp Pike. They helped stabilize a car so emergency medical personnel could safely remove a crash victim. Later in the day, at 12:25 p.m., they responded to but were not needed for services regarding a fire alarm at the Fujiyama restaurant on Farmington Avenue.
