Work Closes Ashenfelter Road in Upper Providence

UPPER PROVIDENCE PA – Ashenfelter Road in Upper Providence Township was officially closed Monday (June 21, 2021) and will remain unavailable to through traffic for between one to two months, the township police department reported. A culvert is being replaced on the road at roughly its mid-way point between Black Rock and Troutman roads.

The culvert was last a topic for the township Board of Supervisors during its April 19 meeting when it unanimously agreed to spend $215,985 for the project, as recommended by engineering consultants Gilmore & Associates Inc. The work will be performed by CMR Construction Inc. of Easton PA, the winning bidder among six firms who competed for the work.

The project’s cost was reduced, according to the board’s discussion, by the township’s purchase and use of a $70,000 prefabricated culvert made available under cooperative contracts with the state Department of General Services. The job specifications call for the culvert installation to be completed before the road is re-paved.
