Hearing Set on North Coventry Alleged DUI Crash
NORTH COVENTRY PA – A Collegeville man is scheduled for a July 8 (2021; Thursday) preliminary hearing on charges that he was driving under the influence of alcohol during a June 15 head-on motor vehicle crash on South Hanover Street, in which another driver was seriously injured. The victim remains hospitalized.
North Coventry Police Department officers, in a Thursday (June 24) report on its CrimeWatch website, said they have arrested Andrew Robert Peterson, 48, in the incident and charged him with six different offenses, three of them felonies. During its investigation, the department said it learned Peterson has three earlier DUI convictions.
Police allege a black 2020 Nissan Sentra that Peterson was driving on South Hanover crossed its center line and struck a 2006 Hyundai Elantra operated by Pottstown resident Mary L. Gatta. At last report from the police, she was hospitalized in Reading PA in critical condition. Peterson also had been in the hospital, and was taken into custody after being medically cleared.
He is charged with one count each of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, driving under the influence-general impairment, accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, driving while operating privilege is suspended/revoked, driving on roadway laned for traffic, and limitations on overtaking on the left.
Following preliminary arraignment before Magisterial District Court Justice John Hipple, Peterson was remanded to the Chester County prison after he was unable to post $50,000 cash bail.
