PennDOT Offering $18 Million in ‘Alternative’ Grants
HARRISBURG PA – Expect government and school officials in western Montgomery County to start discussing their chances during coming months to seek out state Department of Transportation funding for what it describes as “transportation alternatives.” The department said Tuesday (June 29, 2021) it would make $18 million available for eligible projects. Applications are due Oct. 15.
Examples of alternatives can include stormwater management, non-infrastructure projects such bicycle and pedestrian education, conversion of abandoned railway corridors to trails, and construction of turnouts, overlooks, and viewing areas, PennDOT reported.
“We encourage all eligible project sponsors, such as local governments, transit agencies and school districts across Pennsylvania, to explore this opportunity for funding important projects,” PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian said.
