LPE School Roofing Work Sets Off False Alarm
ALERT SOUNDED – Finely tuned smoke, gas, and fire detectors inside Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School, 1329 Buchert Rd. (at top), on Wednesday (July 7, 2021) at 1:05 p.m. sensed heat and other emanations from contractors’ repair and replacement work atop the school roof, Lower Pottsgrove Township Fire Marshal Lew Babel said. Alarms sounded, summoning apparatus and volunteers from the Ringing Hill and Sanatoga fire companies. They determined there was no fire danger shortly after their arrival. Although the alarm was deemed false, Babel reported he was impressed by the detectors’ sensitivity. Members of the school custodial staff and others occupying the building evacuated it and met with Babel and firefighters (above) at its front entrance until the all-clear was given. Babel said contractors plan to adjust their work to avoid future false alarms.
