Furniture ‘Up-Cycler’ Opens Online Artisans Market
GILBERTSVILLE PA – Amy Konop (at top) loves creativity and hates waste. That combination led her during 2016 to incorporate as a local business that saves quality home furnishings and provides custom refinishing so they can be reused and re-purposed. Her efforts so far have won positive reviews from clients and purchasers across southeastern Pennsylvania. Now it’s prompted her to start marketing online.
And she’s inviting like-minded colleagues to the venture.
Konop’s business, Amy’s Upcycles LLC, with a Gilbertsville postal address late last month opened the e-commerce-based “The Shop at Amy’s Upcycles.” It is offering her customized furniture and services for sale, as well as a selection of gourmet edibles from Molly’s Nuts (above at left) in Harleysville, and photographic canvases from Rick Blanco Photography (above at right) in Limerick.
Other artisan vendors are being sought as well, for what Konop envisions as an online regional fine crafts boutique. She hopes to present “local independent sellers, bringing the very best in home decor and indulgent products to promote the enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures.”
Craftspeople to be included already have, or will have, their own websites from which their products are offered. The difference? “The Shop at Amy’s Upcycles” can expand their sales potential, Konop believes.
She relocated her business several years ago to the Pottstown area from out of state, Konop reports, and as a result is “keenly aware of the challenges of starting and promoting a small business.” The Shop is “designed to support local artisans and businesses through cross-promotion and marketing, extending the reach of a single artisan or business,” she said.
Its “artisans and businesses (are) committed to supporting one another and the community. Together we are stronger,” Konop pledged. Buyers won’t deal with intermediaries, either. “All orders are fulfilled and serviced by the individual vendor, allowing customers to interact with the product expert,” she added.
