Child Luring Attempt Suspected in Douglass (Berks)
DOUGLASS (BERKS) PA – A report of an unidentified male, said to be driving a “pieced together” white van Sunday (July 18, 2021) at around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Old Philadelphia Pike and the Schuylkill River Trail, is being investigated by the Douglass (Berks) Police Department as an attempted child luring incident, its CrimeWatch website said.
The van approached two juvenile females who were walking in the area, and its driver reportedly attempted to speak with them. The girls, who were frightened, ran to and sought refuge at a nearby home on Old Philadelphia Pike. The homeowner there waited with them until their parents arrived.
The homeowner, police said, “watched the male drive slowly through the area” and confirmed to officers that the driver’s actions appeared “to be looking for the females.” police said. The male is described as white, between age 40 to 50, with short black hair, a full black beard, and a baggy shirt.
The van was “not factory standard,” police added. It was described as white, with a tinted front window, a stripe down the side, a home-made roof rack, and what appeared to be a bumper hanging off.
Anyone who recognizes or has information on the male or the van is asked to call the department at 610-367-9474, or provide information anonymously using the website’s “Submit A Tip” page, here.
