Lower Salford Blaze Draws A Dozen Fire Companies
LOWER SALFORD PA – A visible roof fire (at top and above) Thursday afternoon (July 22, 2021) at a home on Bergeys Mill Road in Lower Salford Township prompted Montgomery County dispatchers to send a dozen fire companies and departments to the scene. The somewhat remote area lacked fire hydrants, and many of the additional units were trucks that are part of the county’s tanker task force to supply water.
Tanker fill and dump sites were quickly established so task force units could shuttle water to locations where firefighters needed it (above). Hoses snaked across roadways and through trees to meet the demand (at right).
The Harleysville Community Fire Company, on its Facebook page, reported that responders “made a quick attack on the fire and stopped it from spreading throughout.”
Additionally turning out for the alarm were firefighters from Perkiomen Township, Upper Gwynedd, Skippack, Worcester, Towamencin, Green Lane, Upper Salford, Lower Frederick, Souderton, Hatfield, and Limerick. The vast majority of them are volunteers. Police and ambulance units also responded.
“Crews were on location for an extensive amount of time doing overhaul work to make sure the fire did not spread,” Harleysville added.
