SANATOGA PA – A list of candidates eligible to be considered for future law enforcement job openings in the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department has been certified by the Civil Service Commission, township Commissioner Ray Lopez reported during Monday’s (Aug. 2, 2021) Board of Commissioners’ meeting.
Several patrol officer vacancies exist in the department as a result of retirements and illnesses, and township commissioners have previously acknowledged the need to fill one or more openings to relieve manpower shortages. Openings can be filled only by candidates certified as eligible, which is why the Civil Service Commission’s July 22 meeting action was deemed important.
Now the board can allow acting Police Chief Lt. William James to recommend a candidate from among the several certified, and then seek its approval for what usually is a conditional or probationary hiring.
Commissioner Lopez also serves as an alternate member of the Civil Service Commission. News of the list certification came during the Board of Commissioners’ subsequent and unanimous approval Monday of township resident Kerry Whitehead as a full member of the commission.
