Some families checked out homeroom locations,
and happily found teachers inside

STOWE PA – Floors gleamed with polish Monday evening (Aug. 23, 2021) inside West Pottsgrove Elementary School. Most hallway walls were bare, but they silently awaited future displays created by students in the new academic year. And best of all – according to some of those same students – the celebratory ice cream was cold (above), and offered in both chocolate and vanilla flavors.

West Pottsgrove opened its doors to student families, welcoming them either for the first time or for a return engagement to its kindergarten, and first and second grade classrooms. Parents and youngsters alike could roam the building to check out its library, cafeteria, gym, bathroom locations, and their homerooms, some of which were occupied by instructors or staff members.

Second-grade teacher Julie Farris, with a smile evident beneath her black facemask, said the opportunity to again interact with parents and youngsters alike “makes my day.” She believes the same was true for her visitors. “Everyone just wants to get back to something normal,” Farris added, particularly the students themselves.

Family explorations through the corridors were as varied as the families themselves.

A first stop for some was the cafeteria, where the school Parent-Teacher Organization served up cups of cool treats amid decorative balloons, and parents chatted with their neighbors. Others found classrooms first, touched base with teachers, and from school Secretary Renee Lloyd (at top) picked up tags identifying them for day-end rides home. A few parents ended up in the gym (below), where their young charges tried to catch one another as they raced around folding chairs.
