Kids Alone Get to Decide ‘Best Restaurant’ in Contest

POTTSTOWN PA – A mid-September culinary competition designed for young foodies represents the first on-site activity in the home of the Pottstown Children’s Discovery Center, 95. S. Hanover St. The family event is a way to both explore the center, and support its mission to provide an educational, hands-on atmosphere that promotes healthy living by stimulating curiosity and motivating learning.

Several area restaurants have already agreed to participate, and more are expected, in the center’s first annual “Shortstack Competition.” The food face-off is scheduled for scheduled for Sept. 18 (2021; Saturday), from 1-3 p.m. Participants will enter their most kid-pleasing dishes in the competition, and await the determinations of judges … who are kids themselves.

Competing restaurants include Beverly’s Pastry Shop, Grumpy’s Handcarved Sandwiches, Barrister’s Bagel Co., and the Ice House Cafe, and more are anticipated, the center reported.

Visitors join the competition too, at a cost of $5 per person. That allows parents and children alike to eat the challengers’ entries in the form of a “delicious lunch,” organizers said, but only the kids will vote for their winning favorites. The restaurant with most votes will be crowned “Shortstack Champion” to receive bragging rights as Pottstown kids’ favorite.

Funds raised from the competition will benefit the center and its programming.

This event has been added to The Posts’ calendar.
