Pottstown Provider Schedules Childrens’ Social Groups
POTTSTOWN PA – Two new social skills groups for children with autism spectrum disorder have been scheduled by First Children Services, a regional provider of behavioral health and special education services, to open later this month in its Pottstown facility at 500 Creekside Dr. Ste. 511. Registration are currently being accepted, it said Tuesday (Sept. 14, 2021).
The two new groups, are tailored by age, are suited for children ages 4-7 and 7-11. These “Let’s Play” skills groups will meet every Wednesday for eight weeks from Sept. 29 through Nov. 17. They are intended to help kids on the spectrum practice taking turns, participate in imaginative play, and continue to develop social awareness. Registration closes Sept. 24 for both.
A third program, PEERS for Teens, is tailored for teens with high-functioning autism, Asperger syndrome, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, social anxiety, executive functioning weaknesses, and nonverbal learning disorders. It is an evidence-based social skills group that intends to teach teens important social skills that will aid in making and helping keep friends.
The program also engages parents with separate concurrent meetings where they will learn how to assist their teens in making friends through weekly socialization assignments. Registration for it closes Sept. 17.
