Las Vegas Next Stop for Pottsgrove’s Dustin Tavella

LAS VEGAS NV – Stowe native and Pottsgrove High School graduate Dustin Tavella, whose spell-binding combination of inspirational story-telling and performances as a magician were witnessed this summer by millions of television watchers worldwide, is now headed to Las Vegas following his Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2021) win of the “America’s Got Talent” program 16th season.

Greater Pottstown has rooted for him all the way. Social media followers posted dozens of messages of good will and best wishes. Regional television stations broadcast several interviews. During Pottsgrove School District meetings, Superintendent Dr. David Finnerty regularly urged district residents to keep voting for Tavella as the show’s potential victor.

Maybe all Finnerty’s promotion paid off. Show judge Simon Cowell told USA Today the final contest among its participants was “the most competitive final ever,” and show host Terry Crews said it resulted in “the closest vote ever.”

Tavella has said he began working as a magician only in recent years. Pottsgrove area residents earlier have known him as a song writer, musician, and personal fitness advocate, too. Pottsgrove High Principal Dr. Bill Ziegler in years past invited Tavella to speak to students at special programs, and earlier Tavella gained local fame for creating a YouTube music video recorded in a Wilson Street pizzeria that also featured his relatives. It’s since been removed.

Beginning Nov. 4 he’ll be the headliner for “America’s Got Talent Las Vegas LIVE,” which will run daily Wednesdays to Sundays at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. inside the Luxor Theater, according to a media release. Several other finalists also will perform in the shows. If you’re inclined to make the trip, tickets to the show start at $68.

There’s been plenty written about Tavella, the show, and his success since the program’s season-ending chapter. Here’s a curation of selected reading for those who haven’t yet gotten their fill:
