Pottsgrove High’s Daney to Join a Different ‘Class’
LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Pottsgrove High School Assistant Principal Eric Daney, a 2006 graduate of Albright College in Reading and a championship-winning member of its men’s swimming team, is scheduled to be inducted during ceremonies Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 24-25, 2021) into the Albright College Athletic Hall of Fame.
In his four years on the team Daney won a combined 13 individual and relay gold medals at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) swimming championships, and helped lead the Albright Lions to three MAC team championships from 2003 to 2005. He also won a pair of gold medals at the Eastern College Athletic Conference swimming championships in 2004, and currently ranks among the top 10 for six different events in the college men’s swimming program.
Daney also once held a pair of MAC records in the 200 backstroke and the 400 IM, and 10 different Albright program records as well. He served as a team captain for the Lions and twice earned the John R. Spannuth award as the college’s most outstanding men’s swimmer.
Steve Sieller, principal at West Pottsgrove Elementary and former Albright teammate, will present Daney to the Hall of Fame during the coming events.
Daney currently is an accomplished triathlete. In 2019, he represented Team USA and the International Triathlon Union Grand Final in the age-group Olympic Distance Triathlon. He also completed the 2019 Ironman North American Championships at Ironman Texas.
Daney graduated from Albright with a bachelor of science degree in physics and secondary education. He earned his master of sciences in educational leadership from Wilkes University.
His teaching career began as a physics teacher and swim coach at Exeter High School, before moving to Downingtown School District as a physics teacher and district-wide coordinator for sciences. Daney has served as Pottsgrove High assistant principal for the past six years. He and his wife Meghan, an English teacher at Great Valley High School, live in Phoenixville.
