Artworks Sought for Juried Schuylkill River Show

POTTSTOWN PA – If you’ve been busy painting, photographing, or otherwise creating imagery of scenes along the Schuylkill River, its Greenways National Heritage Area hopes you’ll consider submitting original pieces to the 17th annual “Scenes of the Schuylkill Juried Art Show and Sale.” It’s planned as a free exhibit, open to the public, from Oct. 25 to Nov. 13 (2021) in Schuylkill Haven PA.

Winners of the “Best in Show” artist or photographer award will receive a $500 prize. Pieces ranked in second place and third places, as the staff choice, or as honorable mentions will also receive cash prizes. This year’s guest juror of the show is Tulu Bayar, Art and Art History Department chair at Bucknell University, who will select and rank final pieces to be accepted into the show.

The heritage area encompasses the Schuylkill River watershed within Schuylkill, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. Original works on paper or canvas of a scene within the area can be considered for submission. Submitted artwork or photography should communicate the distinctive nature of the region and can focus on people, the river, streams, landscape, or historic properties.

A prospectus and application are available here. Artists are invited to deliver artwork or photography for submission to the center on Oct. 17 (Sunday) from 2 to 5 p.m., and Oct. 18 (Monday) from 5 to 8 p.m.

The 2021 show opens this year at a new location, the Walk-In Art Center at 220 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven. Artwork in the exhibit will be available for purchase.
