Grimm, Pottsgrove Music Education Win Awards

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Two outside organizations, the Pennsylvania School Boards Association in Harrisburg and the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation in California, presented awards Tuesday (Oct. 13, 2021) night to a Pottsgrove Board of School Directors’ member and a group of highly praised district programs, respectively.

Award to Patti Grimm

Director Patti Grimm (at right) was named by the school boards association to its Honor Roll for her 12 years of service on the elected body charged with governing district operations.

In a letter from the association, read publicly by Superintendent Dr. David Finnerty (also at right), its leadership commended Grimm’s volunteerism for “giving unselfishly of time and talents” to ensure the “betterment” of the district and its students.

The district, its music instructors, and student musicians all were honored with a citation that officially designates music programs at Pottsgrove as ranking among those of “the best communities in the nation for music education” in 2021.

As reported during April by The Post, Pottsgrove is a repeat winner of the designation and was one of only 686 districts nationwide that qualified as recipients. The foundation recognized “outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders” at Pottsgrove “who have made music education part of a well-rounded education.”

Tom Kelly (at top, left), representing Zeswitz Music of Reading and its membership in the music merchants group, reported that qualifying wasn’t the district’s only accomplishment. Pottsgrove also persisted in completing and filing more than 30 pages of paperwork needed to demonstrate its musical excellence. That, he acknowledged with a smile, was an act of “pure love.”

Finnerty publicly thanked district music teachers, attending the meeting specifically for the presentation, for their continued efforts on students’ behalf. Board President Al Leach read their names aloud to public applause.
