Users Warned to Avoid Mont Clare Trail Section

SCHUYLKILL TRAIL SECTION – A portion of the Schuylkill River Trail between Lock 60 on Route 29 at Mont Clare, and the Pawlings Road Trailhead at 1530 Pawlings Rd. outside Oaks, remains closed due to earlier storm damage, the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area reminded trail users Tuesday (Oct. 26, 2021). The lock and the Schuylkill Canal Park are open, but Montgomery County continues to conduct repairs and clean-up work on parts of the trail that were heavily damaged during Tropical Storm Ida. The biggest threat is a reportedly dangerous sinkhole, described by the Greenways as “a large area at the trail edge that’s opened up.” Some users are said to be by-passing the signs and even removing caution ribbons there. The organization and the county again warned about the closure and urged trail users to avoid the well-marked section.
