New Pottstown License Photo Center to Open Dec. 13
POTTSTOWN PA – Since the Oct. 4 closing of its former downtown Pottstown photo license center, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation representatives say they’ve been busy working to relocate the highly used facility to another borough area site. Now they’ve found one and are preparing to re-open to the public, state 146th House District Rep. Joe Ciresi said Thursday (Nov. 18, 2021).
The new location, Ciresi said, is 204 Shoemaker Rd. That’s the Tri County Plaza, a two-section shopping center across the highway from Wal-Mart, which also includes the Pottstown offices of the federal Social Security Administration. It’s not yet been disclosed what unit in the plaza, which has entrances from both Shoemaker Road and Robinson Street, PennDOT has chosen to lease.
Ciresi, who’s been urging PennDOT since mid-October to quickly find a home for the center, noted the new site would be only two miles’ distant from its earlier location. He disclosed the Dec. 13 opening date, but no official confirmation has yet been issued by the agency.
The center “provides access to important photo services to many of my constituents,” Ciresi said in a press release. “I’m very glad PennDOT understood the importance of opening a local new facility to resume convenient access … as quickly as possible.” He praised its “quick resolution of this issue.”
Until the new center is open, customers who formerly relied on the Pottstown location for their licensing photo needs can instead travel to nearby centers in:
- Harleysville, Harley Commons, 345 Main St., Mondays through Wednesdays, and Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.;
- Norristown, 1700 Markley St. Ste. 30, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.;
- King of Prussia, 143 South Gulph Rd., operating Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.; and
- Shillington, Shillington Shopping Center, 530 E. Lancaster Ave. Ste. 5, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
All will be closed, however, next Thursday and Friday (Nov. 25 and 26) in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Some driver and vehicle products and services also are available online through PennDOT’s website, here.
