Santa, Crowd to Light Tree Saturday in Collegeville

COLLEGEVILLE PA – Collegeville’s introduction to the 2021 Holidays begins Saturday (Dec. 4) at 4:15 p.m. in the trailhead parking lot at the corner of E. Third Ave. and Main St., across from the Collegeville Diner. Its official tree-lighting will be accompanied by seasonal music, a bounce house for children, and greeters Mrs. Claus and the mayor. The event is sponsored by the Collegeville Economic Development Corp.

Santa is due to arrive on a Collegeville Fire Company truck, the mayor will countdown the seconds to the big moment, and Santa will magically light the 30-foot tree promptly at 4:30 p.m. Later, children are invited to tell Santa, from a safe distance, what they want for Christmas while parents take photos.

At 5 p.m., visitors are invited to walk down to the former DaVinci’s Pub (soon to re-open as “Victoria’s on Main”), 217 E. Main St., to warm up and enjoy a free reception. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available for children, and beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks will be available for adults.

Because Victoria’s on Main has not yet officially opened, no dinners are available.

Inside, Mrs. Claus will read the children holiday stories courtesy of the Perkiomen Valley Library. Children will also receive holiday coloring pages and crayons to create pictures that will be given to the area’s shut-in seniors.

Parking is available on nearby streets or lots, but be forewarned: don’t park in the former DaVinci’s lot or you risk being towed. Wearing masks is requested to ensure any unvaccinated children remain protected.
