Penn State Extension Conducts December Workshops

COLLEGEVILLE PA – Farmers in Montgomery, Berks and Chester counties may benefit from workshops on soybean, corn, and winter wheat production scheduled during December (2021) by Penn State Extension, its Collegeville-based office stated. Sessions are planned simultaneously in multiple locations around the state using a live-streamed broadcast.

Although each session relies on a presenter’s live feed, local extension educators will be available at each location. Question-and-answer periods follow the presentations, and local educators also can answer questions from registrants. Planned are:

  • A soybean (at top) production workshop on Dec. 13 (Monday) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lebanon, Lancaster, Chambersburg, York, Leesport, Ridgeway, New Bloomfield, and Mill Hall. Intended for new and experienced Pennsylvania soybean producers, it will teach new integrated pest and cultural management practices covering the entire growing season, from planting to harvest;
  • A grain corn production workshop on Dec. 14 (Tuesday) from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Lewistown, Lebanon, York, Lancaster, Martinsburg, Leesport, and Smethport. It’s aimed at grain corn growers, crop consultants, industry representatives, and anyone interested in corn production. Included are segments on covering agronomic practices, insects, soil fertility, weeds and disease management; and
  • A winter wheat production workshop on Dec. 16 (Thursday) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Chambersburg, York, Lancaster, Leesport, and Dauphin. It is intended for new and experienced Pennsylvania winter wheat producers, and will highlight small grain integrated pest and cultural management practices covering the entire growing season, from planting to harvest.

Registration costs $10 per person. Advance registration is recommended because capacity for each workshop is limited. Each event has a different registration deadline. To register or find more information, see this webpage.
