Gilbertsville Manufacturer Wins Global Certification

Raw bellows in process (at top) to become Penflex Corp. exhaust expansion joints

GILBERTSVILLE PA – Products produced by Penflex Corporation, the Gilbertsville-based manufacturer of flexible metal hose and braid, metal bellows, and expansion joints, have earned a valuable industrial certification from a global organization that sets and verifies design and safety standards for marine and offshore operations.

The American Bureau of Shipping, headquartered in Texas, awarded Penflex with a product design assessment certification for its Model EX Series exhaust expansion joints. Made from three-ply stainless steel and high nickel alloy components, the joints dampen vibration and absorb thermal movements in exhaust applications to prevent damage to hard pipes and equipment, the company said.

“From oil tankers to military ships, many marine and offshore companies prefer using ABS approved components, as such a designation signifies a commitment to safety and due diligence on the part of the supplier,” company President Robert P. Barker noted. “We are pleased that Penflex products can now be considered by such buyers.”

Penflex is growing its expansion joint and raw bellows product lines, a company technical sales engineer added, and reported the bureau’s certification “is an important milestone in attesting to the quality of our products.”

In addition to its products, Penflex offers additional services such as failure analysis and specialized welder training. In addition to its Gilbertsville facility on Industrial Drive, Penflex maintains a stocking warehouse in Houston TX and operates a second manufacturing facility in Vietnam to serve the Asia Pacific market.
