After 9 Weeks, Local Photo License Center Re-Opening
POTTSTOWN PA – The re-opening of the newly re-located Pottstown Photo License Center, operated by the state Department of Transportation, is scheduled for Monday (Dec. 13, 2021) at 8:30 a.m. at its new site in Unit 9 of the Tri-County Plaza 1 shopping center at 204 Shoemaker Rd. The space was formerly occupied by One Main Financial.
The center will provide photo services Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. daily, and Thursdays with extended evening hours from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Since the Oct. 4 closing of its former downtown Pottstown photo license center at 377 E. High St., department representatives say they’ve worked to relocate the highly used facility to its new location. Contractors were inside the space during late November, painting walls, installing flooring, and preparing for the re-opening.
A Friday evening (Dec. 10) visit by The Posts to the site showed some touch-up work was still in progress, but necessary equipment was in place, and the room was well-lit and filled with ample seating.
The center has been shuttered for more than nine weeks following the department’s decision to terminate “for cause” its real estate agreement to occupy the East High Street location. 146th House District state Rep. Joe Ciresi was among those urging the department to promptly choose and re-open at another site.
They include driver’s license, photo identification, and vehicle registration renewals; driver history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; the ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fees; obtain duplicate driver licenses and photo identification; and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for online services.
PennDOT also operates photo license centers in Harleysville, Norristown, King of Prussia, and Shillington.
