Heart Association Praises Spring-Ford Educator, Volunteers

ROYERSFORD PA – A Spring-Ford Area School District educator who has spent years helping to fight against heart disease and stroke, as well as its teams of volunteer students and staff members, have been recognized by the American Heart Association for their passion and dedication to the cause.

Annual fund-raising campaigns at Spring-Ford’s 5th and 6th Grade Center, organized by health and physical education teacher Jeffrey Moyer (at top), also are being honored as among the most productive in the nation.

Most recently, the association presented the center with an award for collecting $14,058 on its behalf during the 2020-2021 American Heart Challenge “Hoops For Heart” competition. The amount raised last year in Spring-Ford’s Hoops for Heart program, supervised by Moyer, ranked as the fourth-best among all such campaigns across the U.S.

Students and staff members raised that sum by participating in a variety of basketball-related activities. The money benefits the non-profit association’s research, prevention, and patient assistance efforts.
