Wegmans Raises 2022 Employee Scholarship Amounts

ROCHESTER NY – Beginning in January, winners of annual Wegmans Food Markets‘ employee scholarships could receive significantly higher award amounts than their predecessors, the company announced Monday (Dec. 13, 2021). Current part- and full-time employees in Wegmans stores, distribution centers and corporate offices all may be eligible, it said.

Wegmans operates 106 stores in seven states, including those in Collegeville and King of Prussia (at top).

Part-time employee scholarship recipients will receive up to $8,000 over four years, raised from $6,000 previously. Full-timers will receive up to $16,000 over four years, up from $8,800 previously. To receive a scholarship, Wegmans employees must meet work performance criteria. Eligibility is also based on a minimum number of work hours over a specified time period.

No limit is placed on the number of scholarships awarded each year, and no restrictions are made on a student’s course of study or preferred school, college, or university. Recipients may enter any field they desire at graduation. Since the program began in 1984, more than 42,500 Wegmans employees have been awarded scholarships totaling more than $130 million, the company reported.

“Our people are at the heart of our success, and we’ve long believed that we can only achieve our goals by first helping them succeed,” Wegmans President and CEO Colleen Wegman said. “By increasing the annual award for our scholarship recipients, more employees can pursue a higher education and achieve their goals.”
