Cadets stood at attention as their graduation ceremonies progressed

BLUE BELL PA – Four local residents were among 23 cadets who graduated Tuesday (Dec. 14, 2021) from the Montgomery County Community College Municipal Police Academy, during ceremonies observed by family members and friends at the college Health Sciences Center in Blue Bell.

Graduating in Class 21-02 were Dennis Stephan of Phoenixville, Braeden Diehl of Green Lane, Trevor Knechel of Harleysville, and Sgt. Hannah Moran of Collegeville. Additionally, Knechel received the Sgt. James R. Miller Marksmanship Award.

They were joined by 19 other individuals from Telford, Oreland, North Wales (2), Lansdale, Willow Grove, Horsham, Hulmeville, Jamison, Norristown, Glenside (2), Perkasie, Holland, Philadelphia (2), Springfield, Souderton, and Lincoln University.

Academy Director Georgette Hill publicly recognized the group’s commitment and perseverance in working “extremely hard” in 919 hours of instruction over a period of 24 weeks. “It’s a competitive process to enter the police academy that requires several exams, a rigorous interview process and other requirements, Hill acknowledged. “You also had to make many personal sacrifices,” she added.

College Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Gloria Oikelome further challenged the graduates to “be strong in your convictions. Be courageous. Never be afraid to challenge the status quo, and continue to be strong advocates for yourselves and others.”

Since 1973, the academy has been the training program for more than 3,500 cadets with a consistent graduation rate of more than 90 percent. Its 919-hour curriculum allows successful students to articulate up to 15 credit hours toward an associate’s degree in criminal justice. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission, certifies the academy.
