PMA Medical Specialists to Join Penn Med in February

LIMERICK PA – PMA Medical Specialists LLC, a multi-specialty physicians network formed in 1969 that currently serves western Montgomery and northern Chester counties from 11 office locations, will be “joining” Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine on Feb. 1 (2022; Tuesday), according to an announcement on the news page of the PMA website.

Neither the nature of its affiliation with Penn, or the terms or value of an agreement, if any, have been disclosed.

PMA operates offices in Pottstown (2), Limerick (3), Collegeville, Schwenksville, Phoenixville (3), and Audubon. Depending on location, its more than two dozen physicians offer primary care, chronic care management, diabetes education, endocrinology, family practice, gastroenterology, geriatric medicine, internal medicine, pulmonology, rheumatology, and sleep medicine services, its website added.

PMA’s Dec. 6 (2021; Monday) announcement assured patients that “in addition to the exceptional care and personal attention you have come to know from our practice, we anticipate expanding our service lines to meet the growing needs of our patients. You will also have access to the advanced services and resources of Penn Medicine.”

“We understand your concerns and we want to reassure you that we will strive to make this transition as seamless as possible,” the company added. The change, it stated, “will not interrupt” patient care.

Penn Medicine has been a subject of local news since July, when financially distressed Tower Health said it and Penn would pursue a “strategic alliance” to determine “potential areas of collaboration.” Tower operates facilities across portions of Berks, Montgomery and Chester counties, including Pottstown and Phoenixville hospitals.

As of mid-December, Tower also was scheduled to “transition” its regional transplant center at Reading Hospital to Penn Med.
