DUI Patrols Scheduled This Week by Local Police

POTTSTOWN PA – Police officers from Lower, Upper, and West Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Limerick, Royersford, Upper Providence, Douglass (Montgomery), New Hanover, and North and East Coventry – all part of Pennsylvania Team DUI patrols – will be on local highways this week looking for intoxicated drivers.

If you plan to drink alcohol at any time, designate a driver and avoid getting behind the steering wheel of a vehicle, their departments urged.

The multi-municipality, driving-under-the-influence enforcers will conduct at least one sobriety checkpoint, and possibly more, during the period. Their intent: deterring potential drunk drivers. Apprehending just one is considered a success, given the havoc intoxicated operators can create on the road; similar operations in the past have netted several.

The intensity of the continuing severe winter weather also concerns the departments. It’s more important than ever in such conditions to ensure vehicles are operated safely. Police said they also will be watching for unsafe driving behaviors. They offered these additional tips:

  • Ensure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up, no matter where they’re seated;
  • Always follow the speed limit;
  • Never drive impaired by drugs or alcohol; and
  • Avoid all distractions like texting or talking on a cell phone.
