In Lower Frederick, Schmitt Wears Yet Another Hat

LOWER FREDERICK PA – Silverbrook Drive resident Ernest “Ernie” Schmitt, who may hold a record in Lower Frederick Township for the number of official and volunteer titles he’s held over decades, has agreed to add one more.

The township Board of Supervisors on Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2022) unanimously named Schmitt as its alternate member to the township Planning Commission.

He will serve out the remainder of an unexpired term in the position that was established two years ago. Schmitt’s appointment had been planned for the board’s January reorganization meeting but “slipped through the cracks,” supervisors’ Chair Marla Hexter said. She apologized for the delay, and thanked him for again agreeing to help the township.

Among many positions, Schmitt in the past has worked as Lower Frederick codes enforcement officer and building inspector, served six years as an elected township supervisor, served as vice chair and acting chair of the Planning Commission, and currently volunteers as a member of the township Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee.
