Convicted Area Drug Supplier Sentenced to 32 Years

PHILADELPHIA PA – A 47-year-old Berks County man has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for running “a prolific drug gang” that supplied users in Pottstown, Allentown, and nearby communities from his Berks County home, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced Thursday (March 3, 2022). The case was investigated by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and the FBI.

David Cooper, a Muhlenberg Township resident, also will serve eight years of supervised release and must pay a $2,000 fine under orders by United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Leeson Jr., according to United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams. Her office prosecuted the case.

Cooper pleaded guilty, just before the start of a September 2021 trial, to several charges. They included conspiracy to distribute narcotics, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was accused of “leading a drug trafficking organization” that supplied quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine across portions of Montgomery and neighboring counties.

During the investigation, detectives received permission to install court-ordered wiretaps on phones used by the defendant. With extensive surveillance and intercepted phone calls, county detectives and FBI agents arrested Cooper as he “attempted to resupply his organization” with enough fentanyl for more than six thousand individual doses, Arbittier Williams said.

During the same operation, three other individuals also were arrested and later convicted of similar charges, Arbittier Williams reported. They were Comese Robinson of Pottstown, sentenced to 7-1/2-to-15 years in state prison; Miguel Figueroa Jr. of Reading, sentenced to 18-to-40 years in state prison, and Edwin Andino of Allentown, sentenced to 18 years in federal prison.

Among many law enforcement agencies that joined county detectives and the FBI in the investigation were the Montgomery County Safe Streets Task Force, Pottstown Borough Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Berks County District Attorney’s Narcotics Enforcement Team.
