Pottstown Doctor Named Young Optometrist of 2022
POTTSTOWN PA – Dr. Marie Gwinn (at top), a staff optometrist at the Coventry Mall office of Community Health & Dental Care Inc., has been named by the Pennsylvania Optometric Association as recipient of its 2022 Young Optometrist of the Year Award. The honor was presented April 8 (2022; Friday) during the association’s spring conference in Lancaster PA.
The award recognizes an optometrist in practice for fewer than 10 years who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills when serving their profession, patients, and community. Nominees were evaluated according to a point system based on their public service and service to optometry.
Gwinn serves as vice-president of the Chester-Delaware Optometric Society, and is affiliated with the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry. Her volunteer service includes providing vision screenings in Guatemala, at rural Haitian villages, and in and around the Philadelphia area.
She joined Community Health and Dental care in January 2022. In addition to general optometry, Gwinn is skilled in specialty care, including that of pediatrics; learning-related vision disorders, myopia management, specialty contact lenses, and medical optometry.
Gwinn earned her doctorate of optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, and her bachelor’s degree from West Chester University with a major in liberal arts and a minor in biology.
