Schwenkfelders’ Pastor Rev. Weiss Topic of May 11 Talk

PENNSBURG PA – Learn about the life and ideas of the Rev. George Weiss, the first pastor to lead the Schwenkfelders in the colonies, during a May 11 (2022; Wednesday) talk being offered both in-person and virtually at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary St. The event is free and open to the public.

Besides being a devoted pastor, Weiss also took time to write a catechism for children. It is more than a thousand questions in length, and included more than 270 questions related to the Eucharist. Guest speaker the Rev. Dr. Drake William of Central Schwenkfelder Church will share Weiss’s catechism, and specifically his teaching about the person of Jesus Christ. He’ll note any changes from Caspar Schwenckfeld’s viewpoint.

Advance registration is requested. For more information or to register, call the center at 215-679-3103, or send it an e-mail to info@schwenkfelder.org.

The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center intends to engage visitors in and exploration of the themes of tolerance, migration, and heritage in their lives, by highlighting stories of the Pennsylvania Germans of the Perkiomen region, especially those of the Schwenkfelders, a Protestant reformation group.
