OJR, Phoenixville Teachers Win Citadel Awards

EXTON PA – Teachers from the Owen J. Roberts and Phoenixville Area school districts were among 31 winners of this year’s Citadel Heart of Learning Awards, presented for their 21st year by Citadel Credit Union during ceremonies Monday (May 2, 2022) at the Mann Center in Philadelphia. The program is conducted in a partnership with the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

The awards, recognizing “local teachers who show dedication in and outside of the classroom with a unique sense of heart and dedication,” were given to teachers Amy Hess of the Owen J. Roberts’ French Creek Elementary School and Lisa Gray of Phoenixville Middle School. Both, along with 29 others, received a hand-blown glass heart award (at top), $1,000 to spend in their classrooms, and other prizes.

And from among the group, three Grand Prize winners were to receive an additional $4,000 to use in their classroom, $5,000 for their school, and a colorful Grand Prize glass heart. The event marked the first year of in-person celebrations since the program was expanded to include schools from across the Greater Philadelphia region. In total, Citadel said it donated more than $58,000 to the teachers in grants and prizes.

“What all areas have in common is there are dedicated teachers building strength in education,” credit union Senior Vice President Mike Schnably said. “Celebrating teachers, the unsung heroes who mold our children, continues to be one of Citadel’s proudest moments as an organization each year.”

The credit union operates branch offices in Pottstown, Limerick, Harleysville, Phoenixville, and elsewhere.
