Phoenixville to Auction Former Borough Civic Center
PHOENIXVILLE PA – The borough’s former civic center at 123 Main St. is going on the auction block.
The property will be offered for sale using an online auction, by order of Borough Council, scheduled to start May 31 (2022; Tuesday) and end June 2 (Thursday), the Max Spann Real Estate & Auction Company reported. Previews of the property are scheduled for May 17 (Tuesday) and May 25 (Wednesday), both from noon to 2 p.m., but only for individuals registered to receive a property information package.
Registration is available online, here. The package contains additional property details and online bidding instructions.
The borough built a new, larger community facility with expanded resources, and no longer needs the former center, built around 1908, for public use. The auction firm said the structure may have once been an armory that was renovated. It consists of:
- A first floor with about 6,129 square feet, with three private offices, two restrooms, a kitchen, and a gymnasium (above). The gym measures about 50-feet-by-97-feet, with a clear ceiling height of about 19-1/2 feet;
- A second floor of about 1,954 square feet, which was improved as a pre-school divided into several rooms and one restroom; and
- A partially finished lower level or basement of about 6,129 square feet, with utility and mechanical rooms, and improved areas including a locker room once used by the Police Athletic League.
The property (above) is zoned Residential Infill, which permits multi-family residential uses, adaptive reuse, group homes, and other uses. Its consolidated lot represents about .342 acres; the borough consolidated three lots to create a better redevelopment project for new owners.
